IE6 support to become à la carte

Don't panic, this will save you money! The "kill-IE6" campaign has been mounting for several years now. Stubbornly, Internet Explorer 6 has been hanging in there (largely at the request of corporate end-users who have no control over their choice of browser).

Almost a decade old with less than a 5% user base, global giants such as Google, YouTube and Facebook have now finally decided to join the campaign. Google's announcement to ditch support for IE6 effective March 1st, 2010 has become the nod of approval many developers were waiting for.

After some deliberation, the Zendiko team has decided to follow suit (sort of). Effective March 31, 2010, our cross-browser compatibility guarantee will only support:

Don't Panic!

If you still require compatibility with obsolete browsers such as IE6, we are here to answer the call. IE6 support will still be available as an à la carte option (+ 20%). Additionally, we will be installing the "seven-up" script on all new sites which activates a nicely formatted alert prompting IE6 only users to consider upgrading their browsers.

What's the fuss about modern browsers?

  • Increased Interactive Technology
  • Increased Accessibility
  • Websites Load Faster
  • Websites Render Correctly

How will this save me money?

On average our developers will spend an additional 20% of project time to accommodate IE6. When we included IE6 compatibility as a default cross-browser guarantee we had to factor in those costs. By moving IE6 support to an "à la carte" option, customers will now experience upwards of 20% in savings. This will also speed up production time by allowing us to focus on current standards and newer technologies rather than deprecated standards and solutions for limited browser capabilities.
